My favorite tutorialsHere is a list of all the tutorials that i used to learn from. As many of you already know, i am a self taught artist. But the name "self-taught" is a little misleading, since i wasn't quite alone, i referenced and learned from many tutorials. So i am a tutorial-taught artist
Though some are from other sources, most of them come from artists on deviantart. Some aren't even tutorials but images that by looking at them, i get a better understanding of something.
They have shaped who i am as an artist. You can probably see their influence on my art to this day.
So without further ado, here they are.
One of the first tutorials on colors i looked at, and one of the best
:iconaquasixio: has some very good tutorials on colors as well http://aquasixio.deviantart.com/gallery/8808807/Tutorials
This is not a tutorial but whenever i look at it i feel like i know how to draw cl
Use of the colour wheel for lighting and shadingI want to talk about some simple things that even professional photomanipulators don't give enough attention sometimes.
It's the reason why our work can be perceived as wrong a bit , especially by traditional artists. People who are not artists usually say “something's wrong”
Our theme for today is colour of light and shadow.
I want to point out – there are many colour schemes and rules for that (it would be better to write an individual tutorial on that),
some are better for realistic works, some for surrealism, some for abstraction etc. It depends on your idea.
However, today we'll talk about the basic rule that must be followed in any professional work

“You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

A DeviantArt & Wattpad Challenge
March 6 to April 6

When you think about it, any hero could become a villain, and any villain, a hero. It wouldn’t take much. A small change, a tiny twist of fate, a white suit or a red lightsaber, and things could be completely different.
What would cause the Joker and Batman to reverse roles? For an ogre to become a prince, Maleficent to switch places with Snow White, Katniss Everdeen to become a tyrannical leader like President Snow, Harry Potter to join the Death Eaters?
YOUR ART HAS VALUE! (and how to price it)Hello everybody!
I get asked frequently ‘how do you price your art?’ “How do I evaluate how much I should charge for commissions?” etc. Recently, I’ve read a few disappointing posts on how some people devalue either themselves or others’ art purely because it is posted online either as digital or traditional. We often see people with very low prices being taken advantage of by commissioners who want to obtain amazing art for pennies on the dollar without notifying the artist that maybe their prices are too low. On the flip side, we also see people who complain that art is ‘too expensive’ when the pricing of the artist’s work in question is appropriate.
In response to these, I’ve decided to create a journal designed to help you (yes you, reader) understand that your work has value and how you should price your work as a result. It also might shed light on a pretty widespread problem online o

Scheduled Maintenance and Read-Only Mode
DeviantArt will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on Monday, July 27th from approximately 10:00 PM to 11:59 PM Pacific.
During this time, DeviantArt.com and the DeviantArt Mobile App will be in read-only mode — you'll be unable to submit, comment, or +fav deviations (or take other actions that require being logged-in.) However, you'll still be able to browse and search the site, and we encourage you to find and share artwork that you enjoy, bringing attention to artists you love!
This scheduled maintenance will allow us to test changes to our backend systems to make DeviantArt faster and more reliable. Rest assured that none of your data will be affected or lost during this time.
Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to providing you with an even better DeviantArt experience!
Update: DeviantArt's scheduled maintenance is now complete. Thank you for your patience and please commence DeviantArting!
This is why you (and your art) get ignored.People often get the sense of being ignored in the art-scene, especially here online. We all try so hard to get our foot in the door, it's like trying to stuff yourself in an overfull bus like a sardine in a can.
Sometimes you just want to socialize with other artists you admire and you seem to be talking into a brick wall or perhaps you've send your portfolio to a company over a dozen times and still don't even seem to get the smallest response or feedback. I will try and tell you WHY you get ignored and HOW you can get noticed instead.
I will go through the following cases of being ignored:
Do know, that even though being ignored feels very personal it's hardly ever personal at all!
Your comment(s) gets ignored.
It happens ever so often. You notice an artwork or a discussion and you weigh in with your opinion or admiration, perhaps even some feedback? T

Last week, we didn't post a Site Update because there weren't community-facing changes for us to update about. However, the reason for that is because our team has been hard at work on upcoming features, such as...
